Deborah Empson, learner of the month June 2016 at Mount Gould Hospital, Plymouth
Deborah Empson works at the NHS in the HR administration team at Mount Gould Hospital in Plymouth. She is undertaking her Higher Apprenticeship in Business Administration at Level 4 with Acacia Training and Development. Deborah started the training to underpin her knowledge and to be able to achieve a promotion.
Her assessor Karen Short says: “She is a pleasure to work with as she maintains enthusiasm and commitment to learning, despite having to cope with personal and family issues that can create setbacks and difficulties for anyone. However, Debbie sets herself challenges to achieve her qualification targets ahead of expected submission dates, or on time, at least, no matter what.”
Karen added that she is happy for Deborah to receive the award for ‘Learner of the month’ as she deserves recognition for her continued efforts to learn and succeed to a high standard.
Debbie is grateful for her role and she is now able to line manage 3 other people and also encourages them to do a training course. She says: “Apprenticeships just give you the knowledge you need to start or to progress in your career. It is so important to have a great trainer on your side who is understandable and flexible if you face difficulties. Such 1-to-1 support is just impossible if you sit in a classroom. I am happy that I have chosen this route alongside my work and now have many more possibilities.”
