Lisa Callaway – A deserved ‘Learner of the month’ in Teaching

Lisa Callaway achieved the Acacia Training and Development ‘Learner of the month’ award in December. Her support for children and her determination towards learning new skills is truly amazing.

Lisa works at Ladysmith Junior School in Exeter as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant. She felt that she needed to ensure that she had reached the higher level by completing an Advanced Level Diploma Supporting Teaching and learning in Schools.

Furthermore, Lisa works with children with complex social emotional needs on the Thrive programme and is working alongside a number of teacher colleagues. She runs lunchtime clubs to support them and is always in reach for children, their parents and carers.

Angela Feltham, her trainer, says: “When I visited Lisa in the school, she always got visited by her colleagues. She always has an open ear for everyone and gives much appreciated advice when needed. She is a busy mother herself and you can see how much she loves working with children and people. She was also very determined to finish her Diploma in time.”

Lisa says about her learning experience at work: “Doing this qualification has increased my knowledge, particularly about the organisation I am working in and more widely of how a school organisation is set up on the UK. I have also felt an increase in my self confidence and feel that I am able to really embrace the role of Higher Level Teaching Assistant now. I was very happy with the training and the flexibility around my job.” We wish her great success for the future.
